    The Chapel

[IMPORTANT UPDATE See bottom of this page]

It has been the dream and goal of the ministry team at Our Shepherd Of The Wilderness Road to construct a small intimate chapel, a sanctuary for those travelers upon the road that no body knows how old. Plans include a surrounding prayer and meditation garden that will allow visitors to take a few moments from the hustle and bustle of modern day life and connect with our Lord.

At present, budget and plans call for a small portable building type structure approximately 16 feet by 24 feet. By using a portable building certain advantages arise that will enable this ministry to continue to operate without having to declare the real estate church property thereby taking the property off of the counties tax roles. It has never been our intent for this ministry to have any appearance of being just another “tax dodge” and we have gone to great lengths to prove to the world that even though we are a not for profit ministry in the State of Missouri, we still pay our real property taxes

    Exterior: Artists Concept #1

The plan calls for an architectural element or style of using field stone for exterior siding, a style found mostly in Missouri, one that exemplifies local ambiance and tradition. Known as Ozarks’ Giraffe for its resemblance to the spots on the animal of the same name, the stone facades bring back memories of small town, and rural communities. Many churches throughout the Ozarks that were built prior to 1960 but after 1900 have included such exteriors. By incorporating this style we hope to recapture that same rural or small town look and feel. Although for our purposes we will be using a commercially available product rather than actual stone, none the less the artists conception mimics the look and feel of native stone.

    Exterior: Artists Concept #2

The second plan calls for a more cost efficient design, a 14 foot by 24 foot building with white siding, reminiscent of so many rural chapels across this great land. The basic building doesn’t come with windows but we plan on adding 4 to 6 shortly after the prefabricated building is delivered.  The actual cost of the structure is about 40% less than plan one above.

    UPDATE

A 12 by 20 foot building has been acquired to use as a chapel.  It has a barn type roof as in the first illustration above, but has standard siding exterior as in the second artist’s concept.  A price quote of $500 has been received to move the structure from its present location to the property designated to be its future home.  Totally unfinished inside, we estimate that it can be finished and made ready for service for another $500 or less, using materials we already have on hand for the project.  Obviously we are not asking for much, what with a total budget of less than $1000 but we would appreciate any donations to make this chapel a reality and provide a home for the congregation we have as well as to provide a place of worship for those that God brings our way.  If you can make even a small donation to make this a reality, please click on the PAYPAL button at right or contact us for mailing information for checks.
